WHY TRAVEL SOLO

An Adventure That Belongs to You

A solo safari is more than a holiday; it is an opportunity to discover new places, embrace your independence, and create unforgettable memories on your own terms. From extraordinary wildlife encounters to meaningful cultural connections, travelling solo allows you to experience Africa in a way that feels personal, rewarding, and entirely your own.

Travel at your own pace, choose the experiences that excite you, and spend more time discovering what you love. Whether you want to watch elephants at sunrise or enjoy a quiet moment overlooking the savannah, your journey is yours to shape.

Stepping into the unknown gives you space to grow, build confidence, and see the world from a new perspective. Every new experience, challenge, and discovery becomes part of a personal journey that stays with you long after you return home.

From lions resting in the golden grass to elephants crossing open plains, a solo safari brings you closer to the natural world. Without the distractions of everyday life, you can slow down, appreciate the little details, and fully immerse yourself in Africa’s extraordinary wilderness.

Travelling solo creates opportunities to meet fellow travellers, learn from local communities, and discover the traditions that make every destination unique. From sharing stories around the campfire to experiencing Tanzania’s rich cultural heritage, these connections can become some of your most treasured memories.

Travelling alone does not mean managing every detail yourself. With Back to Eden Adventure, you can enjoy carefully planned safari experiences, professional local guides, and organised travel arrangements, giving you more freedom to explore while feeling supported throughout your journey.

"To travel is to collect moments that cannot be replicated, curated exclusively for those who seek the extraordinary."

Before You Set Off - Discover

Top Safari Destinations For Solo Travelers

For your first solo safari, we recommend Tanzania’s Northern Safari Circuit. Explore the Serengeti for incredible wildlife encounters, Ngorongoro Crater for breathtaking scenery and abundant wildlife, and Tarangire for its impressive elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. Choose a private safari for a more personal experience or join a small-group safari to meet fellow travellers. Our advice is to select destinations that match your interests, travel with a professional guide, and leave enough time to enjoy every moment without rushing.

Hot Air Balloon Safari

Rise before the world begins to stir and discover Africa from an extraordinary new perspective. As your hot air balloon gently lifts into the early morning sky, the first light of day begins to reveal the landscape below—golden savannahs, winding rivers, ancient trees, forests, and wildlife moving quietly through the wilderness. From above, the vastness of Africa takes on a whole new beauty, creating a peaceful and unforgettable way to experience the wild. As the balloon drifts naturally with the morning breeze, there are no roads to follow and no engine to disturb the silence. Far below, you may watch elephants moving across the plains, herds gathering in open grasslands, giraffes weaving between trees, or other wildlife beginning their day. With Back to Eden Adventure, the experience is carefully arranged to let you appreciate these moments at a gentle pace, combining breathtaking views with the tranquillity of floating above the wilderness as Africa awakens beneath you. There is something magical about watching the sunrise from the sky, surrounded by open horizons and the sounds of nature far below. Whether you are sharing the experience with someone special, discovering Africa as a solo traveller, or creating a memorable moment with family and friends, a hot air balloon safari can become one of the defining memories of your journey. It is not simply a flight above the landscape—it is a chance to see Africa from a perspective few experiences can offer and to carry that feeling with you long after you return to the ground.

Private Game Drive Safari

Set out into the African wilderness in a specially designed 4x4 safari vehicle, with a pop-up roof giving you an open view of the landscapes and wildlife around you. A game drive is an invitation to slow down and experience nature as it unfolds—elephants moving through the grasslands, giraffes appearing between the trees, herds gathering across the plains, and predators quietly moving through their surroundings. Every drive brings something different, shaped by the season, the landscape, and the unpredictable rhythm of wildlife. With Back to Eden Adventure, every game drive is led by an experienced safari guide with a deep understanding of the places you visit. Your guide helps you recognise wildlife, understand animal behaviour, identify tracks, and discover the smaller details that make each landscape unique. From stopping to watch a herd of elephants to spending a quiet moment observing predators or capturing the perfect photograph, the experience unfolds naturally, giving you time to appreciate every encounter. Some of Africa's most beautiful memories happen when nothing is planned—the sudden appearance of a lion, elephants crossing the road, a herd of zebra moving across the golden savannah, or the warm evening light settling over the wilderness. A game drive safari gives you the freedom to experience these moments as they happen, surrounded by the sights, sounds, and atmosphere of Africa. With Back to Eden Adventure, every journey is thoughtfully planned to bring together exceptional wildlife, beautiful landscapes, knowledgeable guiding, comfort, and the simple joy of being present in the wild.

Maasai Cultural Experience

Step beyond the landscapes and wildlife of Tanzania and discover the people, traditions, and stories that have shaped life across East Africa for generations. A Maasai cultural experience offers an opportunity to spend meaningful time with Maasai communities, learn about their traditional way of life, and experience a culture that remains deeply connected to land, family, livestock, and community. From traditional homes and daily customs to music, dance, clothing, and storytelling, every encounter offers a glimpse into a living culture rather than something simply displayed for visitors. With Back to Eden Adventure, cultural experiences are arranged with respect, authenticity, and genuine human connection at their heart. Depending on the community and location, you may meet local Maasai families, learn about their traditional homes and livestock, hear stories passed down through generations, and discover the significance behind their distinctive clothing, jewellery, songs, and dances. Your local guide helps create meaningful conversations and provides context, allowing you to understand the traditions you encounter while giving the community space to share its culture in its own way. What makes a Maasai cultural experience truly memorable is the human connection. Sharing a conversation, listening to stories, learning a traditional song, or simply sitting together and seeing the world through another perspective can become one of the most meaningful moments of a Tanzania safari. Back to Eden Adventure believes that travelling is not only about seeing beautiful places, but also about meeting people and understanding the cultures that give those places their soul. This experience offers a chance to leave Tanzania with more than photographs—with stories, connections, and a deeper appreciation for its people.

Photographic Safari Experience

Tanzania offers endless moments worth capturing, from lions resting beneath acacia trees and elephants crossing open plains to colourful birds, dramatic landscapes, and golden sunsets over the wilderness. A photographic safari gives you the time and space to observe these moments closely and capture them through your own perspective. Across Tanzania's national parks, conservation areas, and diverse landscapes, every journey brings new opportunities to create images that tell the story of your adventure. With Back to Eden Adventure, your safari journey is guided by professional photographic safari guides who understand both wildlife and the art of capturing it. You also travel in specially designed safari vehicles suited for photography, giving you better opportunities to position yourself for wildlife sightings, enjoy clear viewing angles, and photograph comfortably throughout the day. Whether you are using professional camera equipment, a compact camera, or a smartphone, your guide helps you make the most of every opportunity while giving you time to observe without rushing. The most meaningful photographs are often created in moments that cannot be planned—the golden light of sunrise, a herd moving across the savannah, a bird taking flight, or a quiet wildlife encounter that lasts only a few seconds. A photographic safari allows you to slow down, watch carefully, and become part of the moment before capturing it. Whether photography is your passion or simply a way to preserve the memories of your safari, Tanzania provides an extraordinary setting for creating photographs you will treasure long after your journey.

The Great Migration Crossing

There are few moments in the African wilderness as powerful as watching thousands of wildebeest gather at the edge of a river, waiting for the moment to move. Each year, the Great Migration carries vast herds of wildebeest, accompanied by zebras and gazelles, across the Serengeti ecosystem in search of fresh grazing and water. In northern Tanzania, the Mara River becomes one of the most dramatic stages of this journey, creating an extraordinary wildlife experience shaped entirely by nature. The anticipation is part of the experience. Herds may gather along the riverbank, hesitate, move away, and return before eventually making the decision to cross. When they do, the scene can transform in seconds as hundreds or thousands of animals descend into the water and make their way to the opposite bank. Dust rises from the surrounding plains, the river comes alive with movement, and predators and crocodiles can add another dimension to the natural drama. From your safari vehicle, your experienced guide helps you understand what is unfolding while ensuring the animals are given the space required by park regulations. A migration crossing is not something that can be scheduled like an ordinary activity. It is a moment you patiently wait for and one that may happen when nature decides the time is right. With Back to Eden Adventure, your private safari can be planned around the northern Serengeti during the migration season, giving you the opportunity to spend time in the right areas and follow the movement of the herds. The experience is as much about the anticipation, landscape, and atmosphere as it is about the crossing itself.

Night Game Drive Experience

A night game drive reveals a completely different side of the African wilderness. As the sun disappears and darkness settles across the landscape, the bush becomes quieter, mysterious, and full of movement. With a skilled guide and spotlight leading the way, you may encounter animals that are rarely seen during the day, from elusive leopards and nocturnal cats to hyenas, bush babies, porcupines, and other creatures of the night. The experience is about more than simply seeing wildlife. It is the feeling of being deep in the wilderness after sunset, surrounded by darkness and the sounds of the African bush. A pair of glowing eyes in the distance, the call of a nocturnal animal, or the sudden appearance of a predator can turn an ordinary evening into one of the most memorable moments of your journey. For those who want to experience Tanzania beyond the traditional daytime safari, a night game drive adds a sense of adventure and discovery to the journey. It offers a rare opportunity to witness the wilderness as it truly is after dark, when different species emerge and the rhythm of the landscape changes completely.

Stone Town Walking & Cultural Experience

Step into the narrow streets of Stone Town, where centuries of history, culture, and island life come together. A walking tour takes you through a fascinating maze of historic buildings, carved wooden doors, lively markets, and quiet corners, revealing the stories that have shaped Zanzibar and its people. As you explore with a local guide, discover the influences of African, Arab, Indian, and European cultures that have left their mark on the town. Visit the bustling Darajani Market, admire the intricate architecture of historic buildings, and wander through streets filled with local life. Along the way, you can discover important landmarks and hear stories of Zanzibar's trading history, spices, sultans, and the communities that have called Stone Town home. Stone Town is best experienced on foot, slowly and without rushing. Beyond its landmarks, it is the atmosphere that makes the experience memorable — the sound of the streets, the scent of spices, the beauty of its old doors, and the warmth of everyday island life. It is a cultural journey that brings another dimension to your time in Zanzibar.

Your Home in the Wilderness

Where to Stay on Your Safari Adventure

Rest in comfort and style with carefully selected lodges and luxury camps that bring you closer to the beauty of Tanzania. From peaceful retreats in the wilderness to elegant stays surrounded by nature, Back to Eden Adventures offers exceptional places to stay and make every night part of your journey.

Lake Eyasi

Ziwani Lodge

Set between the dramatic walls of the Great Rift Valley and the vast expanse of Lake Eyasi, Ziwani Lodge is a deeply atmospheric retreat shaped by landscape, culture and light. From the moment you pass through its carved North African-style doors, the lodge feels like another world — a place where African and Arabic influences, local materials and stories of the surrounding communities come together in harmony with the wilderness.

The lodge’s ensuite cottages are reached along winding stone pathways and surrounded by palms, acacia and the colours of the dry Rift Valley landscape. Built with locally sourced materials, the cottages feature high ceilings, writing desks, ceiling fans and large wooden shutters that open towards the landscape and Lake Eyasi. The result is an intimate sense of space where natural light, warm textures and the surrounding wilderness become part of the stay.

At the heart of Ziwani, generous verandahs and quiet spaces invite guests to slow down and take in the Yaida Valley. The swimming pool offers a peaceful refuge from the heat, while meals are prepared as a private experience, using fresh, home-cooked and locally sourced ingredients. As evening falls, the rooftop becomes a beautiful place for sundowners, where the lake catches the last golden light and the surrounding wilderness gradually settles into silence.

Yet Ziwani’s greatest luxury is the opportunity to experience a world beyond the usual safari. Walk through the extraordinary landscapes around Lake Eyasi, fish along its shores, spend time with the Hadzabe on a wilderness walk or fly-camp beneath the African sky, and discover the craftsmanship of the Datoga people. For Back to Eden Adventure guests, Ziwani offers something rare — a journey where nature, culture, ancient traditions and human connection become part of the adventure itself.

Zanzibar Island

Kendwa Rocks Beach Hotel

Set directly on the famous shores of Kendwa Beach, Kendwa Rocks Beach Hotel offers an easygoing escape where white sand, turquoise water and swaying palms create the rhythm of every day. The beach is one of Zanzibar’s most inviting, with calm waters that remain accessible for swimming throughout the year and sunsets that transform the coastline into something truly magical.

The hotel offers a diverse collection of rooms, suites and bungalows, allowing guests to choose the style of stay that suits their journey. Its most luxurious Pool Bungalows feature private sun decks and dipping pools, while Beach Houses, Historical Suites and Coral Stone Bungalows bring different expressions of Zanzibar into the accommodation. Many rooms include balconies or verandas, while authentic touches such as reclaimed dhow-wood furniture and Zanzibari-inspired details give the property a distinctive sense of place.

Life at Kendwa Rocks naturally revolves around the beach. The restaurant celebrates the flavours of the Indian Ocean, bringing together Zanzibari, Indian, Arabic, Thai and Indonesian influences alongside international favourites and fresh seafood. At the beach bar, cocktails become part of the sunset ritual, while the relaxed tropical surroundings invite guests to move effortlessly from the sea to the pool, from lunch to an afternoon beneath the palms.

As evening arrives, Kendwa reveals another side of itself. Sunset bonfires, live music, cultural performances and the famous Full Moon celebrations create an energetic atmosphere for guests who want more than a quiet beach escape. For Back to Eden Adventure guests, Kendwa Rocks is a lively final chapter to a Tanzania journey — a place to feel the sand beneath your feet, watch the sun disappear into the Indian Ocean and experience the unmistakable spirit of Zanzibar.

Lake Eyasi

Tindiga Tented Camp

Set just 1.5 kilometres from Lake Eyasi, Tindiga Tented Camp rests on a gentle hill overlooking the vast shrubland of the Eyasi ecosystem. From this elevated setting, the landscape stretches toward Mount Masumbuku to the west and the distant Ngorongoro highlands to the north. Small, traditional and beautifully removed from the usual safari routes, the camp offers a rare opportunity to experience a quieter and more authentic side of northern Tanzania.

The camp features just 10 spacious cream-coloured canvas tents, creating an intimate atmosphere where the surrounding wilderness remains at the centre of the experience. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom, private veranda, mosquito protection, electric lighting and candlelight, offering simple comforts while preserving the romance of traditional tented living. The camp is built using local materials and follows an eco-friendly approach designed to blend naturally into its surroundings.

At the heart of Tindiga, a cosy rustic restaurant and intimate bar provide a welcoming place to dine and unwind. Guests can enjoy afternoon coffee and tea, gather around the fireplace and boma, or simply sit beneath the evening sky as the sounds of the Eyasi wilderness settle around camp. The restaurant itself carries a special cultural character, having been built by Datoga women and reflecting elements of their traditional craftsmanship and lifestyle.

The greatest experience, however, begins beyond the camp. Tindiga offers guided nature walks, birdwatching and opportunities to explore the shores of Lake Eyasi, but its defining experiences are cultural. Guests can meet the Hadzabe and learn about traditional hunting, fire-making, natural remedies and life close to the land, while visits to the Datoga reveal their renowned blacksmithing, beadwork and craftsmanship. For Back to Eden Adventure guests, Tindiga is not simply a place to sleep — it is an invitation to encounter a living culture and landscape rarely experienced elsewhere.

Central Serengeti

Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti

Set in the heart of Central Serengeti, Four Seasons Safari Lodge brings an extraordinary level of refinement to the African wilderness. Surrounded by the endless plains of Serengeti National Park, the lodge offers an exceptional balance between immersive safari adventure and effortless luxury. One of its most captivating features is its proximity to active wildlife watering holes, where elephants and other animals can gather throughout the day, allowing guests to experience the beauty of the wild without ever leaving the comfort of the lodge.

The accommodation is designed to make the surrounding landscape part of the experience. Elegant rooms feature private balconies overlooking the savannah or watering holes, while spacious suites add private infinity-edge plunge pools and generous living spaces. For families and guests seeking complete privacy, the residential-style villas offer expansive terraces, private pools, separate living areas, and panoramic views across the plains. Every space combines contemporary African design with thoughtful comforts, creating a peaceful sanctuary after a day spent exploring the wilderness.

Life at Four Seasons extends far beyond the luxury of your room. Spend a quiet afternoon beside the infinity pool as wildlife gathers nearby, enjoy beautifully crafted cuisine inspired by Africa and international flavours, or retreat to the Serengeti Spa for treatments inspired by the land and local traditions. Private bush dinners, wine-cellar dining, sunset experiences, and romantic poolside dinners transform ordinary moments into memories worth carrying home.

For those who want to explore deeper, the lodge offers an exceptional collection of safari experiences. Expert-led game drives, hot-air balloon safaris, guided walks with naturalists, Maasai guides and park rangers, wildlife photography, and immersive cultural experiences reveal different sides of the Serengeti. The Discovery Centre also offers an opportunity to learn more about the region’s wildlife, culture, and conservation. For Back to Eden Adventure guests, Four Seasons is a remarkable choice for travellers who want the raw beauty and adventure of Africa accompanied by exceptional comfort, privacy, service, and unforgettable attention to detail.

Lake Natron

Lake Natron Tented Camp

Set among a peaceful grove of trees beside the shores of Lake Natron, Lake Natron Tented Camp offers an intimate escape into one of Tanzania’s most remote and hauntingly beautiful landscapes. Beneath the imposing presence of Ol Doinyo Lengai, the surrounding Rift Valley unfolds in dramatic shades of earth, sky and shimmering water. This is a place where the landscape itself becomes the experience, far from the crowds and rhythms of the traditional safari circuit.

The camp offers 16 spacious semi-luxury safari tents, each with a private veranda and en-suite bathroom. Comfortable beds, mosquito protection, charging facilities and soft candlelight create a simple but welcoming sanctuary after a day spent walking through the wilderness. Six additional Maasai banda rooms offer another distinctive way to experience the area, combining comfort with a stronger connection to the local character of Lake Natron.

At the centre of camp, a candlelit restaurant and fully stocked bar create a warm place to return to after a long day of exploration. Guests can enjoy a changing four-course menu, relax in the lounge overlooking the Maasai plains, or cool off in the natural swimming pool surrounded by shady gardens. As evening settles over the landscape, the campfire becomes the perfect place to pause beneath the vast African sky.

The real magic begins beyond the camp. Walk along the shores of Lake Natron to witness thousands of flamingos, trek through the Engaresero River landscape to hidden waterfalls, visit a Maasai village and discover traditional medicine and dance, or take on the demanding climb of Ol Doinyo Lengai for sunrise. For Back to Eden Adventure guests, Lake Natron Tented Camp offers an authentic gateway into a wilder side of Tanzania — a place where adventure, culture and extraordinary landscapes come together.

Lake Eyasi

Lake Eyasi Safari Lodge

Perched on a gentle slope above Lake Eyasi, this intimate safari lodge offers a remarkable sense of space, with sweeping views across the seasonal soda lake and toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Surrounded by natural vegetation and shaped by the dramatic landscapes of the Rift Valley, it is a place to slow down and experience a quieter, more deeply cultural side of Tanzania.

The lodge features just 16 spacious en-suite stone cottages, each set within the surrounding vegetation and opening onto a private verandah overlooking the lake. Inside, natural materials and simple furnishings create a comfortable retreat, with queen or twin beds protected by mosquito netting, writing areas and solar-powered lighting and hot water. The intimate setting allows the surrounding landscape to remain the defining feature of every stay.

At the main lodge, guests can relax in the lounge, enjoy a drink at the bar or dine indoors and outdoors while taking in the views. An open-air upper deck creates a beautiful place to pause over the landscape, while the swimming pool offers a refreshing escape after a day on safari or exploring the surrounding region. Fresh continental cuisine and warm Tanzanian hospitality complete the experience.

What makes Lake Eyasi truly special is the world beyond the lodge. This is a region where encounters with the Hadzabe, Datoga and Barabaig communities offer a rare opportunity to discover cultures deeply connected to the land. Guests can also walk toward the lake shore, explore the surrounding landscapes, enjoy birdwatching and hiking, or simply watch the changing colours of the Rift Valley. For Back to Eden Adventure guests, this is a stay that adds culture, stillness and a profound sense of place to a northern Tanzania journey.

Everything You Need to Know

Everything You Need to Know About Solo Travel

Planning a solo safari should feel exciting, not overwhelming. Find answers to common questions about travelling alone in Tanzania, from safety and costs to choosing your destinations and experiences. With Back to Eden Adventure, you can plan your journey with confidence and look forward to an unforgettable African adventure.

Yes, Tanzania can be a wonderful destination for solo travellers when the right arrangements are in place. Travelling with a professional safari guide, booking trusted accommodation, and organising reliable transfers can help you enjoy your adventure with greater confidence and peace of mind.

Absolutely! You can book a safari on your own, whether you prefer a private safari with your own guide and vehicle or a small-group safari where you can share the experience with other travellers.

The cost depends on your destinations, travel season, accommodation choices, and safari style. Private safaris may cost more per person because you cover the vehicle and guide costs yourself, while small-group safaris can offer a more budget-friendly option.

Not always. Some lodges and safari camps charge extra for single occupancy, while others offer special rates for solo travellers. The additional cost depends on the property, season, and package, so it is worth checking when planning your safari.

The Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park are excellent choices for wildlife enthusiasts. Lake Manyara is another rewarding stop, while Zanzibar is ideal for relaxing on the beach after your safari adventure.

A private safari is ideal if you value flexibility, privacy, and a personalised experience. A group safari is a great choice if you want to meet other travellers and potentially reduce costs. The best option depends on your budget and preferred travel style.

Tanzania offers rewarding safari experiences throughout the year. The dry season, generally from June to October, is popular for wildlife viewing, while the green season brings lush landscapes, fewer visitors in some areas, and excellent birdwatching opportunities. The best time depends on your interests and the experiences you wish to enjoy.

Pack lightweight, neutral-coloured clothing, comfortable walking shoes, a sun hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, and a camera. Bring personal medication, travel documents, and any essential electronics. A light jacket is useful for cool mornings and evenings, especially in the Ngorongoro Highlands.
